What age do you count as a baby, child or adult on an airline ticket?

Airlines use the following age categories when booking flight tickets:

  • A baby (infant) is 0 to 23 months old and travels without their own seat. The baby sits on the parent’s lap during the flight.

  • A child is 2 to 11 years old and travels with their own seat.

  • From the age of 12, the passenger is considered an adult.

Important:
If a baby turns 2 during the trip, the ticket must be booked as a child.
If a child turns 12 during the trip, the ticket must be booked as an adult.
